Just a little eye candy

I never did show you guys the running skirt I bought a while back. I do love it, but I have to say, it’s too big! A luxury problem, I know. The first skirt I bought from www.runningskirts.com was in the size 16-18 range so when I went to buy another one I erred on the side of caution. That was silly! I had lost weight an inches since the first skirt! Now I can only wear this one for a very short period of time. Hubs took this photo of me yesterday:

Today I also wore a dress (that is a weeeee bit too big) that a friend of mine gave me. She also lost tons of weight and was swimming in this size. I liked the dress but it was something I never would have dared to wear. I like black and even when I try to wear other colours or look for clothes in other colours, I end up with black (or various shades of pink). I decided I was going to give this dress a go anyway, and even bought a yellow bolero to go with it. A week before S gave me the dress I’d bought my first bolero EVER in my life, now suddenly I have TWO. Hubs took this photo of me this morning: (which is why I still have sleepy face on)

My colleagues are still shocked at work, seeing me in colours. Hell, just seeing me in a dress. But this is actually more ME than anything I’ve been wearing for the last several years, before I re-committed to Weight Watchers. I like wearing skirts and dresses. I like dressing like a girl. I also like jeans, but not all the time. Being fat really held me back from the clothes I really wanted to wear. Being fat in the Netherlands is like a double curse – there isn’t a large overweight population (though, way to go guys, you are getting there) so there isn’t a huge demand for plus size clothing. Clothing has improved, but not enough that there are actually stylish shops out there for the larger woman (that don’t cost the price of a small child). Anyway, it’s much healthier to just lose the weight and then buy clothes in “normal” sizes (ok I really hate the word “normal” here, but I hope you know what I mean).

I’m not exactly where I want to be yet, but at least I’m closer to me than I have been in years.

Aaaahhhh! I love the running skirt, it’s so funky! Sad that it’s too big, though, but not really, you know? :) Way to go!

And that dress looks fabulous on, as do you, sleepy-faced or not! The bolero just sets the dress off brilliantly. (I love yellow, especially in the summer.)

Thanks Tracy! I do love the skirt as well. My other one seems to still fit better and it’s the same size! Ah well, now I know at least to go a size down next time. I’ve got a mate in Cornwall I can give it to – we are exactly the same build and height, only she’s a bit behind me on the weight loss. She will love it too :)

and thanks for the compliment! I’ve never worn yellow OR a bolero before!

Ohhh first of all let me comment on your website style you changed it right? or was I just not paying attention before? I really like it so original and interesting!

Secondly I am loving the new clothes! Very summery! looks great and I mean this in a very good way you could probably even go a size smaller for a more figure hugging look ;O) I think you are slim enough now to carry it off. It all depends what you are comfortable with though.

I don’t even need to comment on clothes shops here I think you know from my Tweets the trouble I have. I’m a size 40-42 (English size 12-14) depending on the style and shop and I have trouble finding stuff to fit. It seems that all clothes are designed for people without hips or boobs. Even most of the underwear shops stock thousands of lovely bras with padding galore! (I DON’T need extra padding thank you very much haha)

But anyway before I end up writing a whole blog again on your blog I shall say you are looking great keep up the good work :O)

Hey Liss! Yes I definitely changed the website and now have my own domain :)

Thanks! Yes the dress is a tad big on me actually! another reason to wear the bolero; the straps are just loose, so I’ll have to have it fixed a bit.

I’m so shocked sometimes at the sizing in this country. Last time I went shopping was with my friend Melissa (hopefully you’ll meet her one of these days; ask Rod, she’s a riot!) who just knows EXACTLY where to shop for all the different body part issues. I think we should employ her! And don’t get me started on the lingerie shops!!! I have to go to the bloody expensive ones just to get a size over 85 C!!!

Thank you thank you thank you! And see you Friday ;-)

  4. I’m going to come steal that dress!! I love it!

    You’re so darn cute! :D

    1. Renée says:

haha! thanks Brooke! and you don’t have to steal it! it’s yours if you want it, when you are ready for it ;-) Traveling pants? How about the traveling sundress?

I love the dress! I think it’s a keeper. Maybe you can take it to an alteration shop since it’s a little big. The bolero really makes the outfit come together.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks! Yes, I’m definitely going to take it in after the holiday :)
