March Runfessions – From the Couch

Heyyyyy everyone – I’m back online again, and this time with a brand new host and url! Finally after basically forever, I’ve changed my blog url to match everything else. When I started the blog in 2009 I had no idea where it was going to take me, it was purely for accountability purposes for weight loss and a tiny bit about running. A lot has changed in that time, and so did my ideas about the blog and the name (basically everywhere on social media). Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the new runlaugheatpie blog (some additions still on the way)!

I’m joining Marcia for the monthly runfessional – feel free to cleanse your running sole by joining the link up

It’s Runfession Time, which ironically I guess my first runfession would be I haven’t run that much in March. At least it didn’t really feel like it. My total running distance was 72.5KM. What? You say that March isn’t over yet? It’s not, but as you know, I’ve just had surgery and that’s the end of running for me until around May 20th. It’s bittersweet, but I have a good feeling that this is going to be the end of all my foot and nerve pain issues.

Spectating at the Amstelveen Marathon – I’ll be perfecting my skills over the next couple of months at this.

I would totally runfess that I did not miss any really long runs in the last several months. In fact, the last time I ran “long” was the Half Marathon in Las Vegas in November. My first marathon this year is Chicago (and *ahem* my only marathon, unless…) and I will be starting my training I believe the last week of June/ first week of July.

I would also runfess that I had a totally different vision of how I was going to look at my recovery process vs. how I’m handling it right now. Before the surgery I was all “I’m going to be positive and I’m going to read and I’m going to work on my newfound pilates experience” and to be honest… I haven’t done any of that. OK, well, I am constantly reframing when I do feel negative, but that’s about it. No reading and no pilates. I am very bored and not moving just puts me in a crappy place in my head, which equals not a lot of motivation. If I would reframe it right now, I’d just tell myself that I only have 3 more days and then my bandage comes off and life will resume to fairly normal. So I think that I’m going to work on a schedule for the coming weeks so that I have something to focus on.

me on the couch all week

I would runfess that I generally don’t watch a lot of television but this week alone I’ve seen a ton of stuff on Netflix. And it’s mindnumbing! Reality TV should actually be called “Not Really Reality Television”. Why do we get sucked into these things? I watched the entire season of Selling Sunset for Pete’s Sake! WHO AM I? I did however L O V E season 3 of Queer Eye. Can someone send Tan and Karamo over here to cuddle me? OK the rest of the guys as well.

Another runfession I have; I feel like I’m losing my love for Instagram. I took back to twitter again recently and I feel like at least there’s a little more conversation going on there. I feel like IG is such a hustle; like if you don’t have the right hashtags or belong to the right groups or show your booty in every photo then you just don’t make it. I haven’t been able to let go of the old-skool ideal of actually engaging with people. Maybe that’s the other runfession. Maybe I need to get that out of my head?

And so, these are my runfessions!

Anything you have to runfess? Have you ever binge-watched so much on Netflix that you had to have a discussion and/or intervention with yourself? Any shows you can recommend? How do you feel about the explosion of gym videos and booty shots on Instagram?

    Congrats on the new blog!

I don’t watch a lot of tv but I admit that there are 2 or 3 reality shows that I watch because they are such a train wreck and make me feel better about my life, lol

    1. Renée says:

      thanks!!

oh you have to watch Selling Sunset. I mean, it is so not my kind of show and yet I watched all of season 1 in one day. Bitches galore on that one!

Love the blog refresh! I need to follow suit. Wishing you speedy healing and I hope you’re able to stay in a positive headspace. No small feat for sure. I’m not much of a Netflix binger but I do embrace a good documentary now and again. The latest one is called Murder in the Park. Has to do with murder and the death penalty here in Chicago.

    1. Renée says:

      thanks Marcia!

I’m all about documentaries. That’s usually all I really watch on Netflix. So most of the ones I wanted to see, I’ve already seen. We don’t have the US version but I’ll look and see if Murder in the Park is available. I watched a bunch of documentaries in one go that just made me so very angry at our justice system. You know when you watch one and then you get the suggestions rabbit hole? It started with “13th” and only went down from there.

Okay commenting for the first time:) I have never really tried twitter but I need to! I only use one hashtag consistently and it’s runyourauss off and I don’t think most people get it since it is a play on running with your Australian shepherds or aussies LOL!

    1. Renée says:

Hi Michelle! Twitter is also filled with sponsored stuff and a lot of jerks who like to hide behind the anonymity of the internet. I block way more people on twitter than I do IG! ha! I wouldn’t get your hashtag though now I know it if I see it :)

I love the new blog!!!! I try to freshen mine up every year. Since I’m on Blogger, it’s a little limiting but I’ve found a way to work around it. I agree with you about IG–it’s odd how my follower numbers never change even though I have new people following me every day. Very odd and I think they just play with the numbers.

We don’t have cable so we watch a lot of Netflix and Amazon Prime, which is fine by me. Did you see Meru? It’s about the 3 guys who climbed Mt Meru in India–a very risky climb. And of course, Free Solo, which is about the guy who scaled El Capitan in Yosemite free handed. Wow! That’s the stuff we like…

    1. Renée says:

thanks Wendy! IG is just evolving into something I’m not liking very much lately. Maybe it’s a phase? I don’t know. I’ll definitely check if we have Meru on Dutch Netflix but I have to wait for Ron to watch Free Solo.

  5. The new blog looks really nice. Glad you got that figured out! We binge watched “the Widow” can’t remember if it was Amazon or Netflix but it was really entertaining yet highly implausible. We watched the whole thing one weekend. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Deborah! we were actually just checking out Amazon Prime but I don’t want to get too involved in this stuff because hopefully I’m off the couch VERY soon! I’ll see if I can find The Widow in any case!

  6. First off, I agree with you about IG. I’ve been trying to break 2k followers for what seems like forever. I feel I post relatable, good running content, but those accounts that post half naked fitness photos have like 50k followers. I don’t want to demean myself to get followers and my fitness journey isn’t about how my butt looks so I’ll stick to running and what I do best and keep trying!

Also, injury sucks so I hope you get back to running soon. But I haven’t run much in March either and I think a break can do us some good, even if its not because you want one.

    1. Renée says:

exactly this! sometimes I’m like “how on earth does this person have 96K followers??? how???” but ok whatever. I am just not going to worry about it too much and keep being true to myself. Hey sometimes I don’t even post a running photo! *gasp* and it’s actually been ok! haha!

thanks – I hope so too. in the meantime I’ll be doing other stuff. just need to put a plan together. my foot feels pretty good so I’m curious just how soon I can get back to RPM at least! Obviously not without the blessing of my doctor!

  7. Liz Dexter says:

ah, I love Queer Eye, we’ve only seen the first ep of series 3. I might be getting a ticket to SEE TAN IN MY HOME TOWN in June. In fact I just need to do that. Tan! I am such a mess these days, only in a huge hoodie or running kit, I need those boys!

    1. Renée says:

OMG I WANT TO SEE TAN!!!!

  8. Other than sports, my husband and I watch very little TV; but when we do, we binge watch all eight seasons of some show. LOL

I hope your recovery is continuing to go well!
