WRD: Week 13: 2021 Just Blurgh

Sorry all; I’m just feeling really sick of things again. I figured out that some of my feeling is indeed FOMO; people are either getting vaccinated and getting their own life back and making plans, or quite the opposite – acting like nothing is going on and keeping the rest of us in lockdown. Sigh.

Running

Wednesday it was an extremely nice spring day so we skipped the park (if you saw my post Friday, you can see that was the best decision) and ran down to the Rhein along the quay. There were quite a few people down there as well, but at least less hectic than the park and more spread out.

About half way through was when I started to lose steam; seems to be the trend – Wednesday running is tough with legs that feel like concrete. Not being used to the temperature probably had something to do with it as well.

Saturday was of course notparkrunday. Another cool Saturday morning, this time with 6 of us in total. Jana and her kids made treats the night before so we had a sweet reason to hang out together – distanced – a bit longer.

And my PB? Well, it was one second faster than last week… but, last week I actually looked at the total time running which was a tiny bit over 5KM… not to make it too complicated, officially-officially it’s 5 seconds slower.

Never mind. I just wanted to run and run I did. That’s what matters.

Walking

This week I had two early morning walks. I knew work was going to be completely insane (and it was) so made sure to get out of bed early on Monday and Thursday.

An absolutely stunning morning, Monday.
Thursday was even earlier so I didn’t go into the park – too dark

On Friday, I walked 10KM which was much longer than planned. I had started listening to a Peaky Blinders podcast (we are watching it at the moment) and just was enjoying myself. Normally I save the 10KM walk for Sunday.

This week I found more garden gnomes in another part of town (Malbergen) and a random roll of toilet paper... you know… in case you might need it suddenly??

On Sunday I forced myself finally to get out, dragged Ron with me but turned on my watch and then then accidentally turned it off again. So recorded is about 2KM less. Again, it was really about getting outside.

We got to see some lambs and horses too! Always a bonus. And Mr Pie got in the Mill shot for this week!

Strength and Spin

This week I had my 3 scheduled strength training sessions, which are going well. At least I feel like my upper body strength is improving.

I also had two yoga stretch sessions. Every time I do that I wonder why I don’t do it more often!

In addition to RPM on Tuesday I did Sprint on Wednesday. Sprint is a HIIT workout on the bike, so not really like RPM, which is more of a spinning workout (which has intervals, hill climbing, speedwork, etc). If you recall from reading my weekly run down before Covid, I used to do Sprint before RPM at my new gym because if I didn’t I would end up not getting a bike for RPM class! (it was a very popular class). Sprint 18 is also the last release I did at the gym. Sprint is basically Hard AF and if you don’t see your life flashing before your eyes near the end of the workout you’ve done it wrong – haha!

Other Stuff

Not much else to report except:

  • My “story” video will be up on Arnhem Together sometime in the next 3 weeks. I may share it with you once it’s up if I can get over my insecurity
  • My friend Gerrit as you know is also a Drag Queen named Miss Charlie Sparkle. Something quite fun and wonderful is in the works and I am involved. I will definitely share that with you when I can, but won’t be until May most likely. Let’s just say I had to get dressed up, hair done and make up on point to be involved.
  • No house stuff at all. Maybe next week. We’ll see.

This Week In Numbers

Stats this week:
Walking: 28.5KM
Running: 11.4KM
Bodypump 3 Strength, 2 yoga stretch
Spin bike 1 x RPM, 1 x Sprint
Total steps: 82.180 (avg: 11.740 daily)

That’s a wrap!

How was your week? Is your weather improving? Have you done a HIIT workout on a spin bike before?

We are off tomorrow so I’m going to do my best to have a little attitude reset AND get to all the comments, etc that I’ve not been able to respond to lately.

Comments

  1. therightfits says:

Our weather in Minneapolis started out cold but ended on a warm sunny note! It was an adjustment running in the heat again though.

A 10k walk is quite a long walk! I enjoyed Peaky Blinders the show, I will have to check out the podcast!

    1. Renée says:

I find it’s always an adjustment before spring really starts! 10K is long yes, but I do like my time outside and always enjoy being in the nature. I never enjoyed my running in this way, but I hope that when I can run longer I will start to enjoy it more!

Ah the Peaky Blinders podcast is called Peaky Podcast I believe. Hosts are Daniel and Josh. I like the episodes much later in the series. We finished season 5 now and I’m kind of devastated! We have to wait a while for season 6!

  2. Lisa says:

Our weather was all over the place this week. Even though I’ve had the vaccine, I still feel frustrated that it seems like so many people dont care about covid anymore. Our numbers keep going up even though we are vaccinating alot of people every day.
I hope things improve there soon!

    1. Renée says:

it’s crazy that numbers are going up even though people are being vaccinated. Just goes to show you that you still need to be careful. Here it’s just insane. Like it doesn’t even exist. We used to criticise how they ended up doing things in Sweden and now we are exactly the same.

      Thanks Lisa!

  3. Sounds like a really solid week, Renee! Am I right that you’re saying your husband got the vaccine or am I misreading that? I know how hard it seems when everyone around you is getting it. Your day will come, I promise!

Baby lambs — so cute! Makes you have some faith in the world.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Judy! Nope, neither one of us have gotten the vaccine. We are both in the same category, though if they go by birthdate he will be first.

YES! Baby lambs and ducks and tiny ponies definitely give me faith in the world.

  4. Birchwood Pie says:

See we’re totally making progress with the pandemic! Last year there was TP shortage and this year you’re finding a random roll out in the park. ^^What Judy said, the vax is coming! Keep your head down and you’ll get through it.

    1. Renée says:

haha! so true about the TP! no shortage here ;-). And yes, just taking it day by day. We’ll get it eventually.

  5. I am sure it is frustrating to see others getting their vaccines while you are still waiting. You all are a little behind us here but it will be worth the wait. Hang in there!

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Deborah. Yes, just trying my best to be patient!

  6. Coco says:

I’m in the same mood about the vaccine – but at least my turn should come by May. I heard about ex-pats coming to the states to get vaccinated and thought of you.

Great workouts this week, but you forgot to share the important details about those post run treats — blueberry?

That Sprint class sounds like hell to me. I’d love a sprint tread class, but hate it on the bike.

    1. Renée says:

Expats travelling back to the US to get the vaccine is really making me nuts. But I won’t go into it too much because there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

Thanks! Blueberry crumble cake :). it was delicious.

The Sprint class is kind of hell haha! At the same time I’m just so glad to be alive when it’s over LOL

  7. jenny says:

I don’t blame you for your “Blurgh!” The weird thing in the US is that it all depends on what state you’re in- here in Florida we’ve been going about our business semi-normally for a long time now. We just wear masks everywhere. i have heard that people are sitting in crowded restaurants without masks- but I don’t go to restaurants. So it’s hard because we’re not all in the same boat. I guess you just have to have faith that it will all end… eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, it looks like you’re making the best of it! I love your photos. Miss Charlie Sparkle??? I can’t wait for that! Hang in there.

    1. Renée says:

True, I have heard that! I know my dad had a tough time getting an appt and he’s just been through concer treatment! Wonder why it’s so hard to be organised?? The government here is discussing opening cafes, restaurants and terraces in just a couple of weeks. I won’t be going. I really just don’t trust people.

Ah you’ll find out about Miss Charlie Sparkle soon!

  8. Marcia says:

Great week of activity for you! Ooooh those treats look amazing. It is a Wild West here with the vaccine. There are eligibility rules that nobody seems to follow. The way we need to hunt down an appt. in IL is a total cluster. I actually LOVE HIIT on the bike. Those sprints really help my running.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Marcia! I know a lot of people are getting vaccinated in the US but it does indeed seem like a real nightmare to get an appt in some places. As far as the HIIT workouts, actually Ron said to me that maybe the biking and the sprints are really helping me! I’ll keep doing at least one session a week just in case :)

  9. I need to up my game in the indoor bike after seeing what you’re doing! That said, I’m hoping I can now put dear Sebbe into hibernation for a few months and focus all my attention on Gustavas LOL They said our current temps are above the norm…Iowa just keeps us guessing! I’ll take the above-average temps any day ;-) I love all the walking you do…nice to have another walking fan to high-5!

    1. Renée says:

ha! don’t worry hon, the rest of your non-bike game is surpassing my total game haha!

I am really enjoying the walking! more than I ever thought I would :)

  10. Liz Dexter says:

Well you know our weather was weird if yours was! I ended up back in my winter running gear yesterday with gloves and everything then out and almost not needing my coat later!

    1. Renée says:

haha yes indeed! we always get your weather like two days later! I suppose it’s not been great for you this week either…

  11. “If you don’t see your life flashing before your eyes near the end of the workout you’ve done it wrong…” LOL What a great description of your HITT spin workout!

Last week’s weather was all over the place, in other words, typical March/April weather. This week promises to be warmer, but there’s a chance of rain most days.

It must be very frustrating hearing about everyone else seeming to get vaccinated and you can’t yet. It’s like that here with some states way ahead of others. Hopefully, everyone can be vaccinated soon!

    1. Renée says:

hahaha For Real Debbie, that’s what this HIIT workout is like!

it is very frustrating, but I’m trying very hard not to be a whiny brat about it. But indeed extremely frustrating.

  12. runswithpugs says:

I am very interested in your glam look and Miss Charlie Sparkle!

Our weather is not behaving, which seems to be the look everywhere. Ugh.

I’m sorry you still can’t get the vaccine. I wish it was just easier. Hugs.

    1. Renée says:

Hopefully I’ll be able to share the video even sooner than May, but right now it’s hush-hush. And I’m not so glam… couldn’t outshine Miss Charlie!

      thanks for the hugs x

  13. Darlene says:

Looks like a very active week to me with a lot of positive things going on.

We have winter weather and then spring…never know what to expect.

You walks look both scenic and relaxing. Suburbia where I live is very boring. I guess that’s what attracts me to hiking.

Your time will come. I won’t say Be patient, But we all can’t wait to look BACK on this.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Darlene. And I SO agree with you. Fingers crossed this time next year we’ll already have some real normalcy back in our lives.

  14. Great week Renee!

I’m with you on the vaccine frustration. :(

I have not tried a HIIT on the bike – Peloton has some classes, I should check them out.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Michelle! And sorry you also know this frustration all too well.

I really am curious how a Peloton HIIT bike class would be! If you manage to try it, do let me know!

  15. That is so funny about the toilet paper!! The lambs are so cute. It’s been nice these past few days and I am loving it. Makes me feel good. No HIIT classes here but like Michelle said, there are some classes on Peloton. Now I am curious.

    1. Renée says:

the lambs are so cute right??
I would definitely encourage you to at least try a HIIT class on Peloton. Wonder if it’s as sweaty as on Les Mills!!

  16. […] Oh and remember when I got dressed and made-up for my friend Gerrit’s surprise happening? The special event was Saturday evening! Miss Charle Sparkle didn’t win the contest she entered, but she did place 5th out of 13 which for all of us was a win, being that it was the first time she ever participated! […]
