Fit Five Friday – May we always have a Coffee Date

May 2023 – it’s happening

Welcome to this week’s Fit Five Friday – it’s the first Friday of the month and you know what that means…

ULTIMATE COFFEE DATE! *cue celebrations*

WELOME to Fit Five Friday with with your FIVE amazing hosts – me, My First 5K and MoreRunning With Attitude, Runs with PugsZenaida ! Feel free to join in on the fun! And head over here to join the Ultimate Coffee Date with other amazing, supportive and friendly bloggers.

I’m going to have a straight up double espresso, what are you having?

If we were having coffee

I’d check in with you how your past month went – did you have any races? did you reach any short-term or long-term goals?

I’m pretty happy with my stats in April. I knew I wouldn’t have as much walking mileage as I did in in March, but still averaged 2.8KM per day which is, obviously more than 1KM per day (goal) and more than I averaged in January and February.

Also running is getting slightly better, each time shaving off a few seconds here and there and I am trying to increase my intervals each week. My goal is 52 5K’s this year and I’m at 18 now (I had one run of 6KM and am just counting 5KM’s) so basically on schedule, even though I missed about 7 weeks thanks to The Cough.

I also had a tiny bit of biking but mostly commute/ errands so nothing to write home about.

If we were having coffee

I would also mention that I got back on my spin bike again for RPM and I officially rejoined a different gym (my third time there as a member!). I did not actually MAKE it to the gym however in April, but this month will see some improvement on that.

If we were having coffee

I’d ask you if you ever signed up for and received meal boxes? Ron and I have been a bit in a rut with cooking and we’ve talked endless times about eating less meat and making more vegetarian meals. We both are pretty not-in-the-mood at the end of the work day to 1) decide what we are going to eat for dinner, 2) go and shop for that dinner and 3) cook that meal once items are procured.

Also? Grocery prices are not only through the roof here, but there’s been strikes in the distribution centres which means the shelves are BARE.

I asked around and got a few suggestions for meal box delivery and decided to go with Green Chef. There are a lot of vegetarian options, low-carb, high-protein and less packaging. We’ve had our first box this week and so far so good! I think we were both pleasantly surprised. I will probably also try one or two more – there is one that is super local ingredients and one that is also pre-made dinners that are apparently super nice.

If we were having coffee

I would ask you if you are seeing any concerts in the near future? I’m getting really excited to see Depeche Mode again – on the 6th of June in Düsseldorf and on the 24th of June in Paris, which will actually be a reunion of sorts with some friends of ours that met up the first time in Paris agessssss ago – in fact almost exactly 10 years. These are also stadium concerts which are just amazing. And you know your girl is in the golden circle up front and center, baby!!! YEAH!

France, Netherlands, Germany and Sweden represent!

I am also going to see Harry Styles with one of my girlfriends on the 4th of June. Yes. I admit it. I heart Harry!

If we were having coffee

I’d ask y’all Brooks people what you’ve done to me??? I saw these bad boys today and had to buy them after a quick google search to find out what the toe box was like. Ok, I blame parkrun too, now that they are the official sponsor of parkrun Netherlands!

So how was your April? What’s in the works for May? Summer plans? Concerts? Travel?

  1. I ran the Boston Marathon and a local 5K last month… so that’s pretty good ;)

I’m going to see the band First Aid Kit at a cool new venue here called the Salt Shed. I love Depeche Mode! Have fun!!

    1. Renée says:

I’d say that’s not only pretty good, but pretty epic ;)
I’ve never heard of First Aid Kit – are they local?

  2. Wendy says:

Why does it not surprise me that you are a Depeche Mode fan? I see you loving all those 80s groups…

Happy to add you to the Brooks addiction…

    1. Renée says:

Hahaha is it so obvious??? I actually met Ron at a Depeche Mode party …
OMG and my shoes already arrived one day later! so happy with them!

  3. Did you know the oldest daughter and I saw Journey (with Toto) late March? I’d seen them years ago (with Def Leppard) and they were great! I have a lot of smaller “cover band” concerts I’m hoping to hit over the summer. I love live music ;-) Glad to hear the running is going well for you!

    1. Renée says:

Oh that’s so cool Kim! I saw Journey during the Escape tour! I was 12 and my dad worked for a record company so we got the tickets for free, plus we flew down to Dallas (from Amarillo) in their plane, plus we went backstage. WILD. I will never forget that! I love Def Leppard as well. Live music is just awesome!

  4. Michelle says:

It’s been ages since I’ve been to a concert – I love live music so I need to change that!

I’m glad to hear running is starting to feel better for you. And, you know I’m smiling at your new Brooks addiction ;)

    1. Renée says:

I’m a bit more picky about my live shows and too old to be on the floor/ in the front (if there is no special section at a “special” *eyeroll* price) anymore, but it it so energising to see a good gig!

I see my running gear progression like this — pro compression sock hoarder — inknburn *buy whatever won’t break the bank — goodr, more sunglasses than anyone needs — brooks “should I already get the Christmas ones that are on sale now or regret it later?”

  5. Glad to see you are now a Brooks fan! Also fab that you are seeing progress with your running and walking. That must feel great!

  6. Coco says:

I’m drinking an Americano, which a UK client got me hooked on ….

Yay on the running progress. Good step on joining a gym. Hopefulyl you will find a way to make getting there part of your routine.

My husband is too picky for the meal box plans I’ve seen — we’d need something really basic and boring. ;-)

  7. Love that you are loving Brooks shoes! Depeche Mode!!! They were here a few weeks ago and I didn’t go. Maybe next time? :-)
