Catching up the rest of the year so far…
May 2025
In May we started the next big renovation in our house; the bedroom. There was a LOT of blood, sweat and tears involved in this project. Everything had to be torn out, there was damp and mold, tons of plastic pipes behind the walls that weren’t even in use. We did most of the work ourselves, including my stepped who is a whiz at electrical wiring and building walls. We did hire a plasterer but even had to prepare the walls for plastering to save a bit of money. Oh and the ceilings as well, because we ripped out the lowered ceilings and reclaimed the beams.

Unfortunately we were not done in May, and we were off to Kendal again at the end of the month for another test run for Chris and Ron (and Gemma, Sarah’s daughter, who decided to also do the Lakeland 50!). Of course there was a parkrun involved.

June 2025
We continued our project and had to pause a short bit while my friend Steve (from England) came to visit us. In June we had the “Dutch Double’ parkrun so he and another friend, Wendy, came over to participate in a couple of parkruns. I played local tourist with them and a group of English parkrunners which was a lot of fun.

We finished our bedroom just in time for the bed to be delivered and I. AM. IN. LOVE. My room is the bomb. I can’t believe what a difference it made.

July 2025
In July I had TWO trips to London for work; one was a trip to attend the UK Energy Awards, so at the back of this trip I took the opportunity to go to Bristol to see my friend Melanie, go to a gig and of course join a parkrun. As a bonus my parkrun friend Liz, who lives “close” to Bristol just over the border in Wales, came over to do the parkrun with us. I got to see my long-time friend Maria (from high school!) and my lovely friends Susie and Graham (we met in Paris before the marathon in 2015). This was a really great trip that gave me so much energy.

A couple weeks later I was back again, this time for a team meeting and event and on the back of that trip I headed back up to Kendal to meet up again with Chris and Sarah while Ron flew in from Amsterdam and caught up a few hours after I arrived.

The Lakeland 50 was that weekend and we were not only buzzing with nerves and excitement, there were plenty of people to add to the energy. Drew and Claire came to support and of course Gemma joined as she was also doing the event. Sarah and I volunteered while our runners were out there running, which by the way, was really hard work (the volunteering!!). But it was amazing and we’re going to do it again next year!
Drew, Claire and Gemma headed home and Steve and Wendy came on the Monday before we had to leave. So that was fun seeing them again as well.

Oh! and at least I can tick one goal off my list for 2025 – I finally achieved 100 parkruns!

August 2025
I was supposed to have surgery on August 12th, which meant no real summer holiday, so we planned a last minute long weekend away in Vilnius. We were there 12 years ago for a Depeche Mode concert and absolutely loved it. This time no concert, but we did go to parkrun in the same park we saw Depeche Mode!

Unfortunately the day before we left my surgery was canceled to take care of a more urgent case. This really messed me up for about a week because this had been planned for 3 months and everything for the rest of the year was planned out! So if I didn’t have surgery by the 2nd of September then I would be going on my “summer” holiday to Spain in a cast. So, yeah. Not doing that. It’s now scheduled for the 24th of October.
