Fit Five Friday Meets September Runfessions

It’s Friday already and time to link up not only with your FIVE amazing hosts – me, Darlene – My First 5K and MoreMichelle – Running With Attitude,  Jenn – Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida – The Running Teacher … but also

THIS WEEK WE HAVE THE BONUS LINK UP,  MARCIA’S RUNFESSIONAL!

Every month Marcia opens the runfessional – a place to let it all out and cleanse your soles; if you are needing to release some sweaty secrets or just want to get things off your chest, here’s the place to do it!

September Runfessions

Y’all, I don’t runfess much these days but since I’m trying to be consistent with blogging again I may as well have a go, right?

From Sole to Soul…

To be fair to myself, my mental state and my body, my biggest runfession is basically that I’ve let myself off the hook with consistent running. For Now. This is not a forever thing, it’s just for now while I get mostly my head together.

I will runfess that yes, before my original 2nd surgery date in August, I had some pretty ambitious goals to working my way up to running 5K again in one go. However, that wasn’t panning out too well due to traveling for work and fun reasons, and also thanks to the chronic pain. I really wanted to run that full 5K as my last parkrun before the surgery. That would have been at Vingis in Lithuania. That didn’t happen.

I runfess that not running regularly does play with my head a lot. I’m the first one to say “Don’t live in the past” but a runner’s brain will not let you forget your glory days!! So it’s a constant switch from “then” to “now” and it can be a bit of a downer.

I runfess that I have regular visualization / day dreams of running pain-free and y’all I can’t wait to make that happen next year. Since my surgery got pushed out to October, unfortunately that will mean that I won’t really be able to start Couch to 5K until EARLIEST January, but WATCH THIS SPACE, I will be coming back again stronger than ever.

There’s always parkrun in any case- walk, run, jog, or crawl…

What do you have to runfess this month?

    Ooh- I love that quote.
You are definitely in a season of life, and it won’t last forever. You have a plan, and I like that you have big goals! I know it’s hard to wait- but you’ll get through this period. Last time I was injured someone said in my blog comments “The comeback is stronger than the setback.”
Looking forward to seeing what 2026 will have in store for you.

I’m planning to use Couch to 5K too – my return to running is still on pause but I hope to get there soon. I’m cheering you on!

I am confident that once you are pain-free you will be back to regular running and run any distance that you want to. Even if it’s only 5ks.

Yup, it’s hard to let go of the past. I decided not to run NYC marathon this year. And I’m just going to support 3 friends… Part of me wonders why didn’t I run it again… Even though I know I made the right decision.

thanks Darlene!! I’m really looking forward to it!
FOMO is a real thing but we don’t have to give into it. Often NOT doing something is indeed the right decision.

Oh Renee I’m sorry to hear about the chronic pain and that your surgery as been pushed back. I know you WILL get there, and I also know it’s frustrating. At this point in my (non)running journey, I’m simply grateful that I ever had some glory days. Haha!
