WRD: Week 2/2026 Well That wasn’t at all on my Bingo Card.

First real full week of 2026. Here we are. I’m joining Kim and Deborah‘s Weekly Run Down – feel free to join any time!

Monday 5/1

Three Rehab sessions this morning. Two mental and one physical. They were all hard. It’s a frustrating process, but I’m trusting that process.

Functional Training: 45 min. This is not high-intensity. I literally have to retrain my body now that my feet are fixed. The workout is a mix of warm-up, stretches, core and hamstring work.

Walk: 1.25KM. Just way too snowy and slippery to be outside. I may need to do some treadmill walking this week…

Tuesday 6/1

I felt like heading into town at lunch to to hit up one of my favorite Italian delis for a sandwich. It was still cold but didn’t snow at all today so I have hope that this will clear up soon. I have rehab tomorrow and it’s been all changed to online. Prefer that in this case. I know how to drive in these conditions but a lot of people do NOT. Oh and my new Brooks running shoes finally arrived! YAY!

Walking; 3.25KM

Wednesday 7/1

I had rehab again in the afternoon. I had an hour between sessions so I spent most of it walking in the snow in the park. It was stunning. And more red-breasted robins to be seen! I’ve seen a lot of them lately!

Walking: 4KM

Thursday 8/1

Completely chaotic work day. Lots going on. Year-end. Projects. Nuts. Felt very stressed out not only about work but how I was going to manage work and rehab and training, etc. I’m in the process of retraining my brain. It’s challenging.

Walking: 2.6KM

Friday 9/1

Well. I got the worst news ever today. Which is why I didn’t manage my Fit Five Friday post. In a nutshell, my cousin and her son were found dead under suspicious circumstances. We haven’t been close the last 10 years or so because she went down a long path of conspiracy theories but there was a time when she was one of my favorite people in the world. She and I had the most in common, we wanted to travel, we wanted to experience life outside of our small town, we could have deep discussions for hours on end. She saved up her babysitting money in high school to come and visit me here when she graduated. She ended up going to Uni in Sweden and we even spent Christmas in Portugal one year when my dad and stepmom were living there.

Walking: 1.4KM under total distress

Saturday 10/1

No parkrun today. Spent the morning and afternoon numbly walking around town, shopping, trying to push my feelings down about my cousin. It’s the absolute worst situation. The one you hear or read about but never think it will happen in your family.

Walking. 4KM

Sunday 11/1

It’s Ron’s birthday so we are off to Haarlem to see a Michelangelo exhibition. I’m sure there will be some walking other at home or in the city. It was good to do something totally different to just forget the bad news even if a few hours.

Walking: TBD

Total walking for the week: 16.5 excluding Sunday

Coming up Next Week:

  • plan is to start C25K Not yet, I have to be patient
  • Chronic Pain Rehab Monday and Wednesday
  • Flight to Manchester Friday
  • parkrun Durham
  • Ron’s recce in the Lakes

How was your first full week of January? Hopefully it was better than mine but if not just remember we can only go up from here.

I’m so sorry to hear about your cousin and her son! How horrible! Was she living in Europe or in the US. Not that it matters-just curious. What a tough time for everyone lately.

    That’s awful news.

I hate to be political but I can’t stand what he is doing to our country (and the world)..

Sounds like you are moving forward… Soon you will be running. No need to rush it.

Oh gosh that’s just awful news-so sorry for you and your family. Sounds lie you are doing all the right things with rehab to get to where you want to be! Forward is a pace

Gosh, Renee, that is very upsetting, awful, tragic news — and the sort that really does pull the rug out from under you. ((Hugs)) Hopefully your getaway for Ron’s birthday helped clear your head.

To end on a lighter now — how do you like the shoes? Are they the sort you have to get used to and wear for a bit each day?

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about our cousin and her son. So tragic! I hope the rehab continues to go well as you press onward….
    Thinking of you <3

Renee, this is TERRIBLE. And a reminder that life is so unpredictable. We might think things are bad (oh no, my leg hurts a little) and then something truly bad like this happens. I guess any unexpected death of a family member is tragic, but the circumstances of this one sound strange and I’m sure it’s adding to your stress.
Anyway… sending you healing thoughts. I’m glad you are able to get out and walk off some of the stress.

I just can’t say enough how sorry I am. There aren’t words.
Just know you are in our hearts and our thoughts.
Happy birthday to Ron. I hope it was a nice day in spite of everything.

Oh no. Renée, I am so sorry to hear the sad news about your cousin and her son. Sending hugs your way!

Wow, I’m so so sorry to hear about your cousin and her son. That is so sad and horrifying. It is understandable to be feeling grief and this hoping that you have a better week this week and you give yourself some grace.
