Let’s Chat

How about a little chat over virtual coffee? I’m sticking to my lactose-free latte these days though if pressed for time I’ll just have a double espresso. How about you?

If we were having coffee – I’d tell you my chronic pain rehab was pretty intense. It was more mental than physical. In fact, what I did was ACT therapy (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and to be honest it was just a little chip in the tip of the iceberg. I am looking into how I can continue so that I don’t immediately fall back into old ways of doing things. To give you a tiny idea of ACT Therapy, I found this handy infographic:

The reason this helps with chronic pain is to understand and accept that you will always have pain. That’s a difficult thought and uncomfortable feeling. Learning to accept and not question why is part of learning how to live with pain. It’s not easy. I have been absolutely exhausted from learning this new way of looking at my life, my body, my pain, my stress, my emotions. So as I said, it was just a little advance in figuring out what I really want and what’s important to me. To be continued!

If we were having coffee – I would tell you I’m excited about some upcoming trips! End of March I need to go to England again for work, so of course I asked to take a couple of days extra to go see some friends and we’ll go together to Lowestoft parkrun!

I’ll be spending the Easter weekend with my friend Becky and her husband and am really looking forward to seeing a part of England I’ve not been to before!

In May Ron and I are going on our first cruise with my stepmom! And since we’ll end up in Venice, and SM will be going onto other destinations from there. we’ll hopefully catch up with some friends from Arnhem who moved back to Italy recently.

And in August we are going to the Highlands for 10 days – completely stoked about this and so excited with the planning stage. We’ll go to Aviemore (where we’ll do a parkrun), Inverness and Fort William. I have my eye on 5 specific hikes in the time we are there (beginner, well marked, around 10-12KM) and a distillery tour. And then when we are not on a bus or train, we’ll also hang out and see some local sites and shops. And maybe even a Highland cow or two.

If we were having coffee – I’d also tell you that my latest obsession is keeping track of the moon and specifically knowing the peak of the full moon and when it can best be seen. So Tuesday I went out to check out the sky and the stars:

Full Moon 3 March 2026 – sky was clear but couldn’t capture the stars

It was so low in the sky, I was honestly surprised. Maybe it was the time of evening I was out (7pm) vs. last month (almost 10pm)? I’m a novice so I really don’t know.

Full Moon 2 Feb 2026 – and look at those stars!

And lastly if we were having coffee – I would tell you that Ron and I just celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary in a “Star Cube” on Thursday evening (because stars are cool!) and we’ll be having our anniversary dinner tonight at a Michelin Star restaurant just a short walk from our house.

To give context, in the first photo I’m laying down, the skylight is for “sleeping under the stars”. The second photo is looking down from the loft space. They deliver a picnic basket full of local breakfast goodies as well the next morning. Loved this experience so much. And the STARS… we were so lucky with a clear sky! No moon to be seen though as it was under the horizon. But Jupiter was very clearly spotted (the very bright spot in both night photos)!

Wow, that star cube sounds cool! And, interesting about keeping track of the moon. I never do that, and am usually surprised once a month or so when I walk outside and see that it’s a full moon. I’ll bet Kim has some thoughts on this, since she always does a full moon run.
Pain is… interesting. I don’t know all your details, but living with chronic pain must be HARD. I’m fascinated by the mental/psychological aspects of it. Wishing you all the best on this journey (a journey you never wanted, but a journey nonetheless!)

Kim definitely inspired me about the moon. I always loved reading about the full moon runs and then I’d forget by the next time it rolled around. now I’m finally clued in! Thank you so much – it’s true I didn’t want to be on a chronic pain journey but it’s been real interesting to be able to calm it down a bit

Sounds like you have some fun travel coming up! WE do too! That always makes me happy too. I was not familiar with ACT therapy-that must me new since I went to grad school. Glad it’s helping you!

new adventures on the horizon are ALWAYS fun! Did you study cognitive therapy in grad school? I’m not sure how new it is, but could be since they are always coming up with new improved therapies!

    Happy Anniversary!

ACT therapy sounds very interesting and I’ll be very curious to hear what you think of the approach as time goes on. Wishing you all the best with it!

Thank you! and yes I’ll be pursuing it further I think, just to be sure I don’t fall back into old unhelpful patterns.

    How cool. That star cube.

And so many travel adventures. That’s exciting.

I have a weekend in NYC and then Asheville. Both for races.

And a week in Naples in May.

I wish my husband was not a couch potato and tennis addict.

yeah the cube really was cool!
you too have some nice travel coming up! and do you mean Naples Florida or Naples Italy???

The ACt sounds really interesting and practical. Wishing you the best as you move forward with it. You lie I track the moon, LOL. I was SO annoyed with all the cloud cover we had this week! We did have a very clear sky, a week ago or so, when all the planets were present across the southern sky. Max & I got to enjoy that celestial display!

    1. Renee Avatar

yes Kim you were the one who originally inspired me to be aware of the full moon! but then I kept forgetting haha! At least now I’m clued in and even have an app on my phone to know the best times for viewing and even for blue and golden hour for photos!

I guess you and Kim can’t really share lunar info since you’re so far apart. 😉
The ACT info is interesting. My Mom is coping with chronic pain from osteoarthritis and trying to accept it as a fact of life vs. getting depressed over it. When I’ve had persistent pain for whatever reason, it really does get me down.
    All your trips sound great!

    1. Renee Avatar

well we can sort of – we should still have similar dates to see the full moon in any case! Your mom is smart to already try to think that way. The less we are down about it and let it take our energy and mind space, the less pain. It’s WEIRD but true. Well the pain is still there but we are reacting differently to it, sending different messages to our brain!

Happy belated 17th wedding anniversary to you and Ron! Spending the night in the Star Cube sounds like a really cool experience! And how lucky to get a clear evening for star gazing.

    1. Renee Avatar

Thanks Debbie! we had so much fun at the cube 🙂

What a cool way to celebrate your anniversary! I think the moon is appearing low on the horizon both because it was earlier in the evening and due to its particular orbit at this time of year. Nevertheless, you got some great shots of it! You’ve got some fun travels ahead of you! Enjoy!

    1. Renee Avatar

Thanks Marcia, we really enjoyed it! I’m having so much fun with moon and star gazing! And indeed looking forward to a lot of fun travels coming up!

  9. Jenn Avatar

Happy anniversary! That star cube is sooo cool!

Tell all the highland coos I love them! And that they can come visit me any time! And send me so many photos!

    1. Renee Avatar

thanks Jenn!! I knew you would the coos!!! I promise to say hello and send photos !

The mind is such a powerful thing, it definitely makes sense that understanding and accepting it is important in helping to live and cope with it, but that can definitely be an uncomfortable thing to accept. I hope the rehab is really helpful for you + wishing you all the best!

I’m excited for you for your upcoming travels! They sound really fun + those cows!!! <3 (Please share photos when you're back! :] )

That "star cube" sounds awesome! I need to see if there's something like this near me! 😀 I like the idea of keeping track of the moon! It was ginormous the other night so I was telling my family friends to go outside to look at it, hehe.

    Happy belated anniversary!
