Fit Five Friday and the UCD June 2026- Harry Says Hello

A couple of years ago I saw Harry Styles live, so when I found out he was coming agin to Amsterdam OF COURSE I had to take the opportunity to go. Amazing <3

Unfortunately he did not pluck me from the crowd and ask me to join his band. So here we are again back to regular life.

It’s Fit Five Friday!

Let’s Catch up!

Yessssss I know I’ve been flakey again, but I promise I have real excuses reasons why I just havent had the time to post lately. Attempt #3,672 to start again!

My current coffee drink is a home made iced latte with admittedly WAY too many shots of espresso in it. Some habits die really hard. What’s your bevvie of choice while we chat?

My last UCD was in March and quite some things have transpired, so if we were having coffee I’d tell you first and foremost work is insane right now. At the end of March I went to the UK for a work event, that crossed over into April and I took a few days off for the Easter holiday. I stayed with friends, went to a city I’ve never been in and did a lovely parkrun at the seaside. Once I returned to work we went live with a new ERP system and chaos ensued. April flew by with way too much stress, many tearful moments and again way too much caffeine to get through it all.

During all this chaos I would mention to you that my lovely friend Jen, also known as NakedJen, was in the Netherlands with her Life Partner in Crime, the Professor and so I had to take the opportunity to see her! The last time I saw her was at my wedding which, as we all know, was absolute yonks ago. I spent an amazing afternoon with them in Amsterdam and then they spent an afternoon and night with Ron and I before they headed out to their next European destination.

May was the month that Ron and I would go on our first cruise with my stepmom! If we were having coffee I would ask you if you have ever been on a cruise? All in all I really enjoyed it and we already made plans to book our next cruise, next year, to Norway. Our plan was to just be flexible and spend as much time with my stepmom as possible and that worked out perfectly. We made stops in Toulon, Ajaccio, Civitavecchia, Naples, Messina and Ravenna. Once we got to Ravenna we made our way up to Venice where we stayed for 3 extra days. Whilst there we also got to see friends who used to live in Arnhem but moved back to Italy late last year.

We got back from our holiday and the work chaos ensued once more and here we are in June, hoping it will start to even out a bit.

If we were having coffee I would also tell you that running is going pretty ok, though I haven’t run at all since we got back from holiday as I have had a bit of a Cruise Crud that’s affected my lungs. I have no timelines for running a 5K in one go. I’m also still walking (day 181 as of the date of this post) and I recently joined the gym (having been a few times as a guest already with Ron) again, just trying to figure out what to actually do there!

If anyone has any suggestions for any specific strength workouts for runners, I’m keen to hear them!

So tell me…

How’s life been since we last caught up? How’s your fitness endeavor’s going? Have you had any vacation? What are your vacation plans the rest of the year? Any races coming up?

Welcome back – it’s great to hear what you’ve been up to!

Your cruise sounds like fun! I’ve done a couple of cruises and really enjoy them. It’s a great way to see many places without the hassle of changing hotels 😉

Glad to hear running is going well!

Thanks Michelle! And yes it’s so true – you can see many different places in a short time without ever changing hotels!

Hope to report in soon that I can run a 5K in one go, definitely getting closer to that!

It’s good to see you and I’m glad to hear your running is going well! You seem to keep busy both with work and fun stuff but I’m so sorry about the crazy times at work.

The only cruise-like trip I’ve done is the one from Göteborg to Kiel and back, it was with a language class I attended years ago. I didn’t particularly like it though!
I’m not a runner but from what I know a general workout with compound moves to strengthen legs and hips is great for runners, like squats, lunges, Bulgarian squats, calf raises and the likes, and some upper body work too, rows and presses.
Fitness is going well over here! I’ve increased my squat load lately and my husband is about to start training for his first ultramarathon.

Thanks Susanne! good to see you too! I’m glad fitness is going well for you! I need to definitely look into a workout that would make sense for me – will be investigating that asap! that’s for the general suggestions!

    Ewwww. Cruise crud! The worst!

You are out there living, and I love that for you! So fun!

I’ve been on a few cruises, but it’s not my preferred mode of vacation. I do want to take an Alaskan Cruise, and we are talking about doing a Viking Cruise in Europe, but that won’t be for a few years.

Yeah, the worst part about being sick like this is that I’m not really sick except for the stupid cough. So annoying. Ron would love to do an Alaskan Cruise but I don’t really want to go to the US at the moment. We will do a Norwegian cruise next May which I’m totally looking forward to.

Lovely to see you back and to get to view some super holiday pictures! I am about to discover some all-body moves in the gym that will help me with running and general strength/wellness, but I’ve managed to slowly sprain my ankle so having to be a bit careful (grr).

    1. Renee Avatar

thanks Liz! sorry to hear about your ankle! ugh!!!

I’m all about tea! 😀 We recently tried making our own chai lattes at home and they were quiteeee tasty, so I think I should be saving some money if I’m able to commit to making these in bulk on the weekend, haha.

My mom loves going on cruises for vacation so I’ve been on several with my family! The convenience of never having to pack up my stuff to go to each new destination + being able to eat whatever I wanted was pretty nice, but I do also like getting to visit some places in more depth + eating the local food there!

I’ll be headed to Mongolia in August for horseback riding/archery! :]

I do love a good chai latte! I loved the cruise because of the convenience, but we definitely will continue doing out own regular holiday thing. I felt like it was a good way to figure out places we might want to go for more than a day but with our port stops only 2 got that vote (and one we’d been to already).

Your upcoming trip will be AWESOME!! wow!

It sounds like you been very busy with a lot of fun things to balance out the work stress.

We enjoyed the Viking River Cruise we did from Amsterdam to Basel. I would not do another big “ocean” cruise like the Carnival Cruise we did with the kids years ago. Totally different experiences!

    1. Renee Avatar

too busy. honestly. I do not like it.

I bet the river cruise was cool. Did you actually go to Kinderdijk from Amsterdam? I imagine that is on the way. And Basel is so so cool. Loved it there. But yeah I’m certain that kind of cruise is way different from those giant cruise ships!

How fun to see Harry Styles! Cruising sometimes gets a bad wrap but I’ve been on several and I’ve always enjoyed them. Your itinerary sounds amazing. I’ll bet your stepmom really enjoyed her time with you.
We’re headed off on vacay at the end of the month and we’ll spend Christmas in Europe. One of the perks of quitting my job. Haha!
