WRD: Low Mileage – Week 25/2026

Unfortunately this has been a very busy week so my mileage is low. However, even with the stress and the tendency to look through a negative lens, I have to say it was a fairly good week.

The plan this week was:

  • Monday – gym, walking
  • Tuesday – walking
  • Wednesday – walking
  • Thursday – walking
  • Friday – gym, walking
  • Saturday – parkrunday! + walking
  • Sunday – walking

Gym

Quite pleased we made it again to the gym twice this week. Both times with a warmup and cooldown run/walk/jog there and back. Still not following any structured program but right now that is fine. Whilst in the gym I’m dong mostly strength (unless, like last week. we have to drive there) focusing on exercises that I know are good for running.

Gym time – kettlebells, lunges and squats

Running

No real running this week. Only to and from the gym.

  • Monday – 4KM walk/jog
  • Friday – 4 KM walk/jog

I volunteered this week at parkrun so no run for me. Next week I am the Run Director, so another week with no run. I have non-local parkrun plans coming up soon though, so I’m looking forward to that.

Walking

Still walking every day but it was another week with less mileage than desired. Then again the walk streak is about making sure I get out every day for at least 1 kilometer. So another successful week.

  • Monday – 2KM
  • Tuesday – 2.5KM
  • Wednesday – 2KM
  • Thursday – 3.3KM
  • Friday – 2km
  • Saturday – 2KM
  • Sunday – 6KM

Total: 19.3KM

Still a stressful situation at work and this week I spent a lot of time with one of my colleagues to try to train him a bit more in my role so that I can actually go on holiday without coming back to a sh*tshow.

Next week is busy again however I am planning on going to the training group on Tuesday. So Monday and Friday gym, Tuesday training and hopefully another run somewhere sandwiched in.

How was your week?

It sounds like you had a good week- accomplished your walking goal, and also made it to the gym twice. And this is on top of a stressful situation at work. I’ll bet the walking is helping to diffuse the stress. So you have a vacation coming up? Sounds like you need it!
Hope the week ahead is a good one!

walking helps a bit but right now it’s so little that maybe it’s not helping…the stress level is too high for only 1 or 2 KM but it’s all I can muster. We do have a vacation coming up in August, so just gotta power through next month!

Oh I wish you the best with your work situation and I hope your colleague can keep the things done when you’re away.
You’re doing well with getting out walking every day – that can be hard when you have a lot of stress around you! Hope you manage to get out for a good run next week.

Good for you for volunteering at ParkRun, but too bad that means you can’t run on those days. Do you sometimes stay and run afterward or arrive early and run before? Even though you have no structured plan at the gym, it sounds like you’re doing the right thing by focusing on exercises to enhance your running.

I don’t generally run before or after parkrun. If I’m setting up I’m already at the park at 7:45, so I’d really have to get out earlier. Running after parkrun isn’t ideal because at that point I need to get my Saturday going. And, parkrun is timed with official results so I wouldn’t get the credit for it hahaha!

Good luck with your work situation right now! Hopefully the stress lessens up somewhat this week. I try to walk most days, too – but it’s easier for me on weekdays than weekends (when I’m with the kids/their activities/don’t want to wake up at 4 am). Walking is so good for you! I’m also doing lifting more now, and trying to do full body with the addition of physical therapy exercises for my hips/glutes to help with running. There’s so much we need to do as we get older to keep running!

thanks Melissa! and you are right there’s so much we need to do to stay fit when we get older!

Hey, you’re keeping active & consistent, so nice job!! They started a local Park Run in my former town, a few months ago. It’s been a huge success, and I’m hoping to get back some weekend to take part.

I know! I think I messaged you on FB and realized you moved from there haha! Anyway if it’s close I really recommend it!

I know what you’re talking about when you mentioned training someone at work. Being able to get away from work without worrying took me a long time to achieve, but I am happy to say I’m finally there! It’s so important to have a backup like that. I hope it works out for you!
That’s so cool that you are helping out at ParkRun!

thanks Lisa. It will be a while I think before it’s a really good backup situation but I’m feeling at least like it will help a bit.
