Let’s Catch up over your favorite beverage

It’s been a month, y’all.

Honestly. I am trying so hard to manage work stress, not overbook myself, get to the gym, get enough sleep and have a little bit of fun. And it’s been kind of a mixed bag.

Let’s talk about it! If we were having coffee I’d tell you that Ron and I try really hard to plan nice things to do together on the weekend, things we haven’t done before. In June we finally went to the Biesbosch. To give you an idea, if you don’t want to click the link:

The Biesbosch National Park is a nature conservation area and the largest fresh water tidal zone in Europe.
This means, for example, that you will find many streams and willow swamps there.
With tall, luxuriant willow forests, the area looks just like a jungle!

It was absolutely incredible! We spent Saturday afternoon on one side of the water and Sunday on the other side (and on the water). It was so cool that we are going back again tomorrow to take a special boat tour to see the Beavers.

We also managed two brand new parkruns, one in Hilversum and one in Amersfoort.

If we were having coffee I would mention that we are back at DIY’ing again! We fixed up our workout space to be a guest/hobby room and while most of it’s done, I’m still awaiting some items from Etsy to finish up the Ikea Alex drawer block that I painted, and of course Ron ripped out the cupboard area under our stairs so all the stuff from there is in the guest room… meaning it was organized in there for about 3 days before it became a dumping ground again. If I’m honest I’m a little sad that the workout space is gone, but we were not using it anymore. It made no sense to keep equipment that was just becoming a dust magnet.

On that note, if we were having coffee, I’d mention that I’m pretty proud of myself consistently going to the gym 2x a week for the last 4 weeks. I know for some it’s not much but for me a huge milestone. I still don’t have a real plan, but try to focus on anything that can help me with running (core, hamstrings, quads, bit of upper body). At some point I’ll come up with a real plan.

Last but not least

If we were having coffee I would tell you I did this really cool rubber stamp making workshop. Honestly I thought I would be shit at it because all the messaging in my youth was that I was not creative. But one of the things I learned in therapy was that everyone is creative and no matter whether you think you are good at it or not it simply doesn’t matter. If you get joy out of it, then you have acheived the desired outcome. So I made the stamp and this is the result:

It is FAR from perfect and yet it is so stinking perfect to me!!

So tell me…

How’s life been since we last caught up? How’s your fitness endeavor’s going? Do you have a creative hobby?

That park looks amazing! I’d love to visit there.

Great job on getting back to the gym regularly and fixing up your space.

Are you caught up in World Cup fever?

it’s really an amazing place to visit!
not too much caught up in the World Cup, am not super excited about FIFA as an organization but did catch one NL game that we happened to win 🙂

Nice work on hitting the gym regularly, especially with the busy schedule you’ve had. And, I agree with Erica that park does look amazing! I think that’s great that you and Ron are trying out new things on the weekends.

Thanks Michelle! I feel like I’m almost ready to follow a program so that’s the next step. And funnily enough I’m trying out reformer pilates next week (I said I wouldn’t go back to pilates but always wanted to try reformer!) so maybe that’s the piece I’m missing.

we do enjoy our weekends – though we aren’t out and about every weekend, once a month has really been nice.

That national park looks fantastic!!! With all the water too. Beautiful! That’s so good that you plan these things, it must help you get rid of some of the work stress and get some reset on the weekend?
I love that statement that everyone is creative and that it doesn’t matter whether you’re good at it or not. I need to get more into that mindset myself, I tend to always think everyone else is better than me at everything and even if I love doing whatever I do anyway, it creates some stress. I love your stamp! Perfect is whatever you think is perfect!

yes planning these things really does help! and I enjoy and look forward to these activities! And about creativity, honestly it’s still a struggle to stop the thoughts that I’m no good at whatever it may be but pushing through that truly helps!

I feel like balancing life with work/life admin + hobbies/de-stressing is an eternal struggle, haha. :[ Best of luck!

The Biesbosch National Park sounds amazing! Would love to get to visit someday. :]

Was the workshop you did a linocut workshop?! I found out about it in February and have been wanting to try making my own. It looks fun + I love how yours turned out!

    1. Renee Avatar

it really is an eternal struggle. may we all at least somehow get closer to a good balance 🙂

yes, linocut! I couldn’t remember the name haha! it was so much fun! I am just trying to think about the next stamp I’m going to make!

Oh wow, Biesbosch National Park is beautiful. And you certainly must have enjoyed your time there since you visited it two days in a row and are going back.

I love the stamp picture you made – very cool! To answer your question, I can be creative, but don’t have a regular hobby that requires any great creativity. It’s fun, though, when I take the time to make something.

    1. Renee Avatar

I do find it hard to make time to be creative. we all have our regular things that we do, plus work, etc. So sometimes there’s just no time for an extra hobby. It’s good to occasionally do something though, almost like a little nervous system reset that we didn’t know we needed. 🙂

First of all, your stamp project is gorgeous! I hope you do more to creatively express yourself. It’s so healing.

Second, I love that you are heading out and exploring and finding all the new cool places. It’s so great.

Can’t wait to see the finished results from the house! You guys are really doing a ton!

    1. Renee Avatar

thank you Jenn! I know you do a lot of creative stuff and join a lot of different types of fun workshops yourself so I know you really get how healing this can be!

we really are enjoying getting out and seeing more in our own little country. I love that we can evolve together.
