Y’all. 2025. Can you just believe it??
It’s going to be a bit of a different year for me but I’m determined to adapt and go with the flow AND stay healthy and fit at the same time.
It’s Fit Five Friday!
WELOME to Fit Five Friday with with your FIVE amazing hosts – me, Darlene -My First 5K and More, Michele – Running With Attitude, Jenn – Runs with Pugs, and Zenaida – The Running Teacher !
It’s a new year and that means we have a new plan for topics. Obviously you do not have to post something relating to these topics, but they are good prompts when you want to join in the link up! Feel free to post anything though as long as it relates to physical and mental health and fitness!
Shall we jump into it?
Five things I want to accomplish in 2025
1- parkrun – surely you must have known parkrun would be on my list! This year I definitely want to achieve my 100th parkrun (I’m at 88 now), and I also want to achieve my 50th different location (I have 43 as of now). You’d think this wouldn’t be difficult but here’s the challenge: I will have my foot operation on the 11th of February, that gives me 5 weeks to possibly participate. For sure I will have two different locations before the operation, because those are planned.
After the operation I will need 6-8 weeks of recovery. There’s no way of knowing right now when I will be able to first walk 5KM. And here’s the kicker – I will have the other foot operated on this year as well. I need 10 more parkruns, with 5 of them being not at home before the end of the year. You see how this will be quite challenging?
2- stay fit even if I’m unable to run – I’ve started preparing for the operation and looking into how I can still stay fit while I’m unable to bear weight on my foot. So if anyone has any suggestions, you tube links, etc., I’m open! I’m thinking regular upper body workouts and possible lower body without bearing weight.
I’ve also already planned in all my e-gym appointments at the gym until February 10th. *Of course I am now sick, so I’ve already had to cancel one of my appointments. Boo.
3- use my LesMills subscription again – my plan is to do RPM at home at least once a week when I’m able to. So that means from now until February 10th, once a week and then as soon as I can get on the bike again, I will do RPM/ the Trip / Sprint obviously adjusting for my foot.
4- get sleep therapy – a huge part of my mental well being is hindered by my crappy sleep. Nothing is really helping, so it’s time I go to a sleep therapist. I am really curious if this will be the answer. Drugs and various apparatuses don’t work for me, my brain just isn’t shutting down. My neurologist suggested I try this, he thinks it’s someone psychological and I’m ready to try.
5- stimulate my brain with a creative habit – this one falls under mental health for sure. I have not really pushed myself creatively for a while (ok, well, I do with social media for the parkrun account, but this goal is not about social media!) and I really would like to do something again! This is not a concrete plan yet but the things I’ve been thinking about are:
- small furniture refinishing
- stained glass course
- a new photography project
- a project involving old photos
I feel like I’ve just fallen into a routine that is not stimulating me 100%; sure it’s nice to have a decent job, my parkrun activities and my fitness, but there’s more to life, right? So, I am just going to think about what I’m going to pick that is realistic and achievable.
What are the things you want to achieve this year?

I love your goal of a creative habit! I’ve promised myself more time in the garden and I’m getting back into my Spanish lessons. I’d also love to get back to photography.
Best of luck with your surgeries – so glad you have a plan to bring some relief to your pain!
Good luck… I think you WILL achieve your parkrun goal.
I have let my creative side go too… running, running running. Yes there is more to life but it is so time consuming. That’s why no more marathons.
hope your surgeries go well
You are super close to that parkrun goal and I know you are going to get there! While surgery is never fun, I’m so glad you’re getting it done. It will be so great for you!
I don’t think I’ve heard of sleep therapy, but I love that you have a plan to improve your overall well being. I think that’s absolutely amazing.
And I am also all on board with improved creativity. That’s so important.
You’ve got some great goals to keep you motivated! Have you thought of doing leg lifts (when you’ll be recovering from your surgeries)? I did daily leg lifts when I was recovering from my knee ordeal (2017). I did them standing, but you could easily do them in a seated or lying position.
Sleep is definitely so important! Hope you get that figured out. I have no doubt you will hit your park run goals. Hoping your foot heals quickly
