Five things to moan chat about over coffee this month

If we were having coffee…

I would ask you… WTF is wrong with people?

Apparently people have not gotten the memo that 1) we are in a pandemic, 2) it’s the 3rd bloody wave here and 3) there are some fairly simple rules in place to keep people from getting sick and overloading hospitals.

Completely ignoring all that, at the first sign of nice weather, people flock in large non-masked groups without any sort of distancing to the park or the beach and then they leave their shit everywhere. Is there any bigger F U out there??

I have learned very quickly on very nice days outside to avoid the park. How sad is that?

My friend Carrie sent me these photos (and said I could use them) of Wednesday in the park. Just 2 days ago. Pandemic? Where?

W T F ???

If we were having coffee…

I would confide in you that things that really shouldn’t have any effect on me are really rubbing me the wrong way lately. I am not sure if I can continue to blame my hormones or the pandemic (or both) but I’m not very happy with how I “take” things lately. I have done my best to keep my head up, stay patient, follow rules, etc., but I’m really so tired of how stressed it makes me feel. I’m talking about in person and online.

I don’t want to argue with people and I certainly don’t want to be so upset at work (over something not worth being upset about) that I’m practically crying on the phone with colleagues. But here we are.

I’m willing to try this – maybe I’ll feel better?

If we were having coffee…

I’d tell you that that garden project we were considering doing is going to be way out of our league expensive, so we may just start with replacing the stairs since they are the most dangerous part of our back garden. Time to start saving up seriously again.

Luckily the neighbour cats are supporting us with the garden we’ve got for now

If we were having coffee…

I’d tell you that though I’m really not much of a shopper, I am seriously missing being about to randomly and spontaneously go into a shop. Specifically I’d like to buy some new workout and running clothes but I’m more of a touch, see and try on kind of shopper and really don’t like online shopping (obviously I don’t have a problem from brands I know well – especially the sizing – like InkNBurn) that much. And what I really don’t like is having to return things.

We can shop here now, but you have to make an appointment and in some cases you only get 10 min. Sigh,

If we were having coffee…

I would mention that I didn’t realise the clocks were springing forward not only in the US a few weeks ago, but also here for us last weekend. And, I didn’t even realise that it was Easter weekend. I don’t do holidays so it’s fine, but usually you have a sense of holidays or the time of year. Not doing anything and not going anywhere just makes the days, weeks and months just melt into each other. Gah.

What would you tell me over coffee?

How do you deal with the stress of everything? Do you feel like you’ve no idea what day or month it is sometimes? Are you an online shopper or would you rather see and feel the goods before you buy? Have you ever started a project and then had to scale way back because of cost? Do you sometimes feel like you are losing faith in humanity?

Sorry for the downer post. I’m just being open and honest. I do my best each day to try to be positive but lately it’s not working. I keep moving to give myself feel-good hormones but sometimes they don’t last very long.

I’m going to try to be more positive at our next coffee catch up, so don’t give up on me just yet!

  1. Darlene says:

    This definitely speaks to me.

We want to redo our kitchen. I am really afraid that what I want will be unaffordable. And how do I decide? How will I cut back.

I definitely prefer shopping when I can see things. That being said, it is so much easier to buy online. I think people too much because it is easy.

I feel like I am skipping all the holidays because we can’t gather. No passover seder so I decided to skip Passover. No Christmas gathering so I skipped presents….. crazy, hun?

    1. Renée says:

it’s hard, renovations – I mean how do you know how much it will cost until you ask?? We finally told our guy that we could only afford what we felt was really necessary for now. He’s really nice and totally understood. Hopefully we can do part II in a couple of years. But yeah, it’s tough!

I usually skip holidays but now I just don’t even know WHAT holidays are happening!

  2. Unfortunately, I did lose some faith in humanity last year due to all the ugliness on social media. But, there also was a lot of good things happening, so those are what kept me optimistic. As for shopping, I prefer to do it in person…online is convenient, but just not as fun.

    1. Renée says:

OMG yes. Not only ugliness from the pandemic but from the elections as well. I don’t find shopping fun at all but definitely prefer in person!

  3. Laurie says:

Wow! Those park scenes are scary!!! I think it is the same everywhere. Cases are on the rise again here (in PA) because of the variants and because people think the pandemic is over, so we can dispense with wearing masks. Ugh!!!

I am with you on the online shopping. I do try to stick to brands I am familiar with (no buying from FB ads!!!) but even then, if I have to return it, it’s a pain. I miss trying things on in a store.

    1. Renée says:

Yes luckily the weather hasn’t been good lately so no crowds and no rubbish. And I agree with trying things on in a store! Much prefer that.

  4. Coco says:

Home and garden work is so pricey. We’ve had some boring maintenance work done that you would never notice, but it wasn’t cheap. The only reason I know it’s Easter is because I’m doing one of the readings for church — via Zoom. And, I bought some jelly beans last weekend.

I’m definitely feeling worn done from a week of pandemic living. And now feeling like the only one I know who hasn’t been vaccinated. Too bad I’m so healthy?

I did just get my passport renewed, so many I can see you next April in Copenhagen?

    1. Renée says:

Coco I am so going to Copenhagen when you are going to be there!!!!

  5. Wendy says:

Sounds like things aren’t much different by you than here. Sadly.

I’m definitely an online shopper. I loathe shopping!!!

    Hang in there!

    1. Renée says:

definitely and unfortunately the same :(

I really don’t like shopping at all. but every once in a while I feel like I want something new.

  6. jenny says:

You’re not alone! I think most people are feeling the stress these days. Not that it’s any excuse, but I think that’s why people are not following safety guidelines as much. Everyone’s sick of it and it’s making them rebellious. The problem is, it’s only going to prolong the problem.
I really don’t like shopping online. I would much rather go into a store! For Christmas I ordered some things- one was pajamas for my daughter with her horoscope sign (Capricorn) on the top, and they sent me Aquarius pajamas. And I ordered gray pants for my son and they sent me a black v-neck cardigan. WHAT??? I’m so over it.

    1. Renée says:

Yes I agree with you re: people’s behaviour. I’m sick of it all too. I guess that’s why I don’t understand why people can’t just behave. It’s not fun, but I”m doing it??? Yeah online shopping has never been my thing. I feel like half the time it goes wrong.

  7. Those parks!! Wow! How do they think it is OK? I do most of my shopping either at Target, Amazon, or Oiselle. All three are easy for me to return items when needed. Your memes are funny! :-) Hugs to you. I know how you feel.

    1. Renée says:

They really aren’t thinking! I wish we had stores here that I could trust, but I’ve never really fallen in love with any store here. Thanks for the hugs x

  8. Marcia says:

Those park pics are ridiculous. Is there no enforcement at all?? Sorry things are so stressful for you. Lately I’ve stuck with brands where I know their sizing so it’s been good. Not that I’ve bought much at all because honestly, where am I going? Haha!

    1. Renée says:

There’s enforcement but the police are totally overwhelmed in these cases. And yeah I hear you about shopping. Where are we actually going ?? ha!

  9. Wow those park photos are unbelievable! Sadly I’m starting to see similar behavior where I live…sigh.

For online shopping I’ve pretty much stuck to brands that I know well so I don’t have to worry about the sizing. Having said that I just received an order from Athleta and was surprised at how big some of the cuts were. Thankfully making returns with them is easy.

I’m sorry things have been so stressful for you. Sending hugs your way!

    1. Renée says:

Luckily the weather has been crap so no huge crowds lately! ha! Thanks for the hugs x

  10. I am an online shopper and when I stick with brands I know, it works pretty well. It’s easy to return things as well. I visited my first store in person the other day-it was fun. I do sometimes wonder why people do the things they do. I can’t control what I can’t control so I choose to ignore it and do what I can. hang in there

    1. Renée says:

smart Deborah. I do know I get a bit too worked up over things I can’t control sometimes. I could learn something from this.

  11. I feel you, I live beside a lake. And while I understand that people want to catch a little sun(yes, even during a pandemic) I am absoluterly shocked about they leave it. I mean, is it really that hard to take the rubbish with them and dispose it at home ???

    1. Renée says:

ugh. apparently it’s really hard :(

  12. […] it was an extremely nice spring day so we skipped the park (if you saw my post Friday, you can see that was the best decision) and ran down to the Rhein along the quay. There were quite […]

  13. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says:

I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough time lately. *Hugs* I really hate seeing people in public without masks, even just seeing pictures like that annoys and angers me! So I can empathize with you. I don’t shop often for clothing, but I really can’t stand doing it online, it’s just not the same and since having Baby E, I don’t even know what my sizes are anymore lol! It’ll be nice when we have more opportunities to shop in-person again.

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Janelle! I went to the supermarket today (usually Ron goes) and saw several people in the store without masks. Honestly why is this tiny thing so hard for some people??? UGH. I am really not a shopper at all but I end up not buying stuff online simply because I may have the added effort of sending it back. Hopefully you can also go shopping in person again without time pressure as well (like what we have).

  14. I do some of both, online and in person. I haven’t shopped for regular clothes since the pandemic hit, but I’ve ordered workout clothes online many times. I need to buy a dress for my son’s wedding in November so I’ve been perusing the Nordstrom website regularly. I’ll wait and go to the store in person later in the summer once I’m vaccinated. I do go to the grocery store, Costco, and Home Depot occasionally and feel safe, but for some reason I’ve avoided department stores and the mall.

The hardest thing for the holidays has been not going to church in person. They request those over 60 not attend in person and I’m grateful they share it on Facebook Live, but it’s just not the same.

I do hope things get better for you. Sending virtual hugs your way, my friend!

    1. Renée says:

seems like you have time anyway to find a dress so makes sense to go once you are vaccinated! I actually have now broken down and made an appointment for in person shopping. We shall see how it works out!

It’s great though that you are able to attend church virtually.

      Thanks for the hugs! x
