WRD – Week 17/2023 I went Left

Last week Deborah mentioned that a few things didn’t go right so instead she went “left”. Well, this week I also definitely went left!!

WEEK 17/2023

Plan vs Reality

Thursday – King’s Day (big street party, likely only walking) 1.25KM Walk

As you can see, not much went to plan!!

Monday, both Ron and I were feeling the effects of the running and walking from the day before, so we decided instead to do a good intensive walk during lunch. My knee was also bothering me so it made more sense than doing RPM.

Tuesday of course I was back in Amsterdam and I walked as per plan.

Wednesday is where is started to go “left” – normally we would have gone for a run during lunch, however, our friend and neighbour Anne recently won the Rotterdam Marathon (!!!) and the Mayor was having a small ceremony for her. She asked us if we would like to go so of course we were absolutely delighted to be there! A walk into town and back was then our activity. Later in the afternoon I had an appointment to get my nails done, so I opted to bike there. I figured I could also go out for a little jog later. After my appointment, I jumped back on the bike to go home, and then promptly fell over! I don’t know how I did it but I wasn’t even seated or peddling yet! I landed on my arm, hip and I think the point of the saddle got me right in the middle of my right glute. Oh but my nails were fine – LOL!! I managed to also bend the jockey wheel and the rear derailleur to where they were hitting the spokes so I couldn’t cycle home. After several attempts to call the Man to come and pick me up (his phone was still on silent from the earlier ceremony we had attended), he finally arrived, re-bent the parts back in place and I cycled home (we couldn’t get the bike in the car unfortunately). Anyway, long story short, I fell, and it hurt.

Thursday was King’s Day and we were outside from 8 am until 5pm!! And I was physically wrecked (lots of standing) so I only managed a walk.

Friday, still massively tired and sore (and now have a lovely bruise on my bum), I thought I would just do a quick lunch walk instead of the run. I wasn’t feeling it.

Raining again

Saturday – parkrunday! Sadly one of our volunteers couldn’t make it so one of us was needed to step in. Since Ron and I are trying to reach our 50 parkruns milestone together, we both decided not to participate. We’ll try again next week. In the end I clocked 4KM to and around the park and then more KM’s later when I finally went to my gym intake and did some errands.

Oranje parkrun – in honour of King’s Day Thursday

Sunday – it was time! I suited and booted and went out for another 5KM run with 500m/100m intervals. Another few seconds off my time from last Sunday as well. Later on Ron and I walked into town for our monthly movie and dinner date.

COMING UP NEXT WEEK

I will continue my 1km min per day walk streak as well as some other cardio and strength.

Monday – RPM, walk, start gym strength training program
Tuesday – walk
Wednesday – run at lunch, strength in PM
Thursday – walk
Friday – run at lunch, option strength in PM
Saturday – parkrun (participating), 2nd option for strength in the afternoon
Sunday – run, walk, bike? not sure yet.

That’s a wrap!

How was your week? Did you manage everything you planned or did you go with the flow?

  1. Michelle says:

Ouch – sorry about your fall! Glad to see that you’re back on track.

And how amazing that your friend won a marathon! Wow!

    1. Renée says:

thanks, glad nothing really serious happened. and yeah so cool that she won! we saw it on TV and both burst into tears seeing her come across the finish line!

  2. Ooof on the bike incident! At least your nails made it through lol. Way to turn your week around and finish your week w a nice run. Congratulations to your friend! How exciting!

    1. Renée says:

yeah that would have been a real waste of 1.5hour at the salon haha!! I think I might have been more pissed had my nails gotten wrecked ha!

  3. HA! My first thought was “What about the new manicure?” Glad at least the nails survived the accident, but OUCH to your other parts. Huge congrats to your friend on her marathon win! Although your week didn’t go as planned, you did a great job pivoting and making do.

    1. Renée says:

haha priorities right? I checked my nails first LOL! anyway we can only just move forward no matter what right?

  4. Jenny says:

I’ve had a bike fall like that- I was barely even moving and was like “HOW did that happen?” Anyway, glad you weren’t too hurt. Something like that can really throw off the whole week- luckily you were able to go left : ) Nice job getting that 5k done on Sunday!

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Jenny! is it an age thing? because for real how does one fall when they aren’t even officially ON the bike yet…?

  5. Wendy says:

Sorry to hear about your bike mishap, but whew that the nails were fine! Lol. Nice job with the run on Sunday. Gotta just keep going, am I right?

    1. Renée says:

I know it’s so shallow to worry about the nails first LOL! Thanks a lot – indeed keep on truckin!

  6. Coco says:

How cool that your friend WON the marathon and awesome that the Mayor held a ceremony and that you could participate — definitely worth rearranging your schedule for that!

Bummer on the bike mishap, but I am glad it didn’t wreck your fresh manicure. :-)

    1. Renée says:

Yeah we are all really proud of her! And for sure the ceremony was worth moving things around. Luckily my bum, as well as my nails, is fine now :)

  7. Ouch on the bike… I broke two nails when I broke my foot… Boo.
Way cool that you knew a marathon winner!! My friends are not that fast. LOL
I plan my week too… and it rarely ever happens the way I planned. ie today was a gym day… it didn’t happen and it’s raining so my hike and un may not as well.

    1. Renée says:

breaking nails is just adding insult to injury am I right? yeah Anne is such na great athlete, it’s nice knowing her too – she’s kind and humble and also a great neighbor :). I’m really going to try to stick to schedule this new week. we shall see. I was already making excuses to not go tonight because there’s a race a few friends of mine (including Ron) and now I’m having FOMO of just being a spectator!

  8. Kim G says:

Ouch! Sorry about the bike fall, but glad that you didn’t injure yourself too badly. I had an incident like that a few years ago. Those type of freak accidents always make me scratch my head!

So cool that your friend won a marathon and was able to meet the Mayor!

    1. Renée says:

yeah the bike accident is a head scratcher for sure!! I might need to just be a bit more mindful, perhaps I’m too distracted? we are super proud of Anne and the funny thing is the Mayor lives around the corner from us so we actually see him regularly taking his kid to school on the bike :)

  9. Susanne says:

Ouch about the fall with the bike! So glad you didn’t break anything, not even the nails, lol!
At least you got some good walks done this week, and then a Sunday run! Congrats to your friend winning the marathon, and how cool that the mayor had a celebration for her. Hope you’ll have a good week ahead.

  10. Jenn says:

Aw, you did so great! I definitely struggled this week, between weather and plans, and my buddy not feeling well. Onward and upward!
