It was a good week for planned vs. actual. It was a week still needing improvement on the mental and emotional side, but I’m taking things day by day and that’s all I can do right?

This Week In Fitness

this week in fitness
  • Monday – Planned: Gym, strength program Actual: exactly that
  • Tuesday – Planned: RPM also actual
  • Wednesday – Planned: strength at home and Pilates Actual: only pilates
  • Thursday – Planned: Aqua Spinning also actual
  • Friday – Planned: Gym (maybe I’ll try PowerYoga) Actual: strength at the gym
  • Saturday – Planned: walk, bike or workout at home Actual ended up being a bit of a rest day, I did walk a bit but not much
  • Sunday – Planned: RPM Actual: 30 min walk on the treadmill with hill intervals and RPM

If I were to give this week a grade, I think it would be an A-. I was at the gym 5 times this week, that’s kind of unheard of for me. I did my strength training program twice, I tried another swimming class and I went back to RPM. A few days at work this week I also went for lunch walks. My steps were over 10K every day except Saturday (and I’m not quite done with Sunday).

Back at RPM

I’m so happy to be back at RPM! LOVE the sweat factor! And it’s miracle that it actually happened two times this week since Sunday always seems to be questionable if it’s going to happen or not. The classes are really busy, I think because it’s off-season so all the regular bikers come indoors for classes. When I showed up this morning it was already full! I was kind of upset about it but then the instructor said not to worry as there was a class at 10 as well. I’m glad I was able to get rid of my anger on the treadmill for 30 minutes (with hill intervals), with some good music on instead of storming off back home. Ron was with me at the gym so I wasn’t sure he wanted to wait that long but he had no issue with filling up the time.

Aqua Spinning

I’m going to give this class a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10; and believe me that’s better than the Aqua Pump class (which I’d give about a 3 or 4 max). It’s just “meh”. I think it has a lot to do with the instructors as well. No one tells you anything! So I had no idea how to set up the bike (I managed to get the saddle height ok but my steering was off) and I had the feeling there must have been a way to set up resistance but no idea how to do that either. I also don’t “feel” like I belong there. Hard to describe. But these are not my people. This is not my class. Aqua jogging is the next thing I’m going to try, but I’m not hedging any bets on it being successful. Let’s see.

I think I would have had more fun biking with spongebob and the gang

Strength Training

I am enjoying my program now, though I have to admit I skipped the side planks so far (so just doing the “normal” planking). Maybe I’ll try it next week.

pushups
still working on my pushups
leg press
using the leg press for normal reps and also a special exercise the physio advised me to do

Pilates

Pilates is Pilates… Since I don’t have any pain any longer (only nerve jabs now and again in my groin) I feel like I’m ready to move on from the uber slow uber beginning class. I spoke with the instructor and we agreed that I’ll come the next three Wednesdays and then on the last Monday of November I’ll start with the level 1-2 class. I’m looking forward to this – more challenging and I’ll be home at 6:30pm instead of 8:30.

At Home Workouts

Admittedly there were none but I’m proud of my husband for using our dedicated space twice this week. He’s now convinced we need a better bike than what we have, I mentioned maybe we could get a Pelaton when the come to Germany, he looked at the price and told me to get lost! ha! OK so maybe not a Pelaton then… bummer.

Coming up Next Week

  • Monday – Aqua Jogging (maybe something else as well because it only starts at 9pm)
  • Tuesday – RPM
  • Wednesday – Pilates
  • Thursday – Gym, strength or maybe XCO or maybe both
  • Friday – strength at home
  • Saturday – walk or bike
  • Sunday – RPM

Since I want to try aqua jogging, I can’t really go to the gym but I may do a part of my strength training at home beforehand. Friday I go back to see my orthopaedic surgeon and since it’s kind of far away I’m going to try to see a friend for lunch as well. Friday night I’m going out, so again I may need to do a bit of strength at home or just go on the bike for a bit.

I’m glad to have the feeling of a schedule again. Now for the other parts of the process, the nutrition and weight loss. To be honest I didn’t even check my weight this week, but I have been logging in daily to MyFitnessPal.

Goals for November

I wrote about goals in my Friday Five Post – I know not everyone is online all the time, but if you haven’t seen it and you are interested you can find it here:

Friday Five – Goals for November and the Ultimate Coffee Date

I think the most important one right now is trying to find the good, something good, in every day. With the physical activity and the positive mindset I’m sure I can turn this depression around a bit!

That’s a wrap!

How was your week? What kind of grade would you give yourself? Have you ever tried classes that you were hoping to like but ended up feeling “meh” about the whole experience? Do you have a Pelaton and have some great arguments to present my husband with so that I can get one in the future?

You were busy this week! I love that you mixed up the workouts :)

That’s a bummer about the aqua spinning class :( The name sounds so cool but I hate that the instructors don’t really tell you anything – that sucks!

    1. Renée says:

thanks Kim! and yes I really don’t like it when instructors explain nothing!

  2. Kim at Running on the Fly says:

Well, I went to one spinning class awhile ago (18 months ago?) and it was very meh for me. But, it was only one time, and I was clueless on how the bike worked and felt really out of place among a bunch of “regulars” who obviously had their own area of the class. I need to go back and give a few more tries, but I really prefer being outside, so my gut is telling me to not waste my time or effort LOL It’s great you have a schedule again…hope that really helps as you work your way back to running in a couple of months ;-)

    1. Renée says:

I totally understand this Kim. I really despise when I go to a class and there is no welcome or instruction for new people. It’s SO important that you know the basics about the bike. I have to say at my new gym the instructors don’t really do that. But at my old gym I loved the instructors so much. They knew everyone’s name and if you were new they immediately helped you adjust your bike and explained the basic positions. It makes such a difference. And honestly? I find RPM to be different to spinning – including instructors. But if it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing. Classes in the winter are much busier because the outside guys need their fix indoors.

  3. I completely get what you mean about feeling like the people are not your people in class. Just think of it as a way of maintaining your cardio and strength. You did a really great job of staying active and on schedule this week

    1. Renée says:

Thanks Deborah. For now I’ll be just doing laps I think!

  4. You had a good mix of workouts! And yay for making it back to RPM! Hope this upcoming week is another good one for you.

    1. Renée says:

      thank you Michelle!

  5. Liz Dexter says:

Ha – I mentioned Peloton to my husband yesterday. I thought if we shared the subscription?? Hm, maybe not then. Anyway, well done for a good, solid week. Are you feeling happier for it? I hope so.

    1. Renée says:

Thank you Liz! I wouldn’t say I feel “happier”, but I don’t feel as down, if that makes any sense?

  6. Glad you were able to get in so many workouts! We have a regular spin bike already so I dont think we would consider getting a pelaton (we dont use the bike often enough to justify it). I bet it feels good to get back on a regular workouts schedule!

    1. Renée says:

thanks Lisa! It does feel good!

  7. I’d probably give myself a B+ if I had to grade my week!

That’s a bummer that the Aqua Bike class didn’t work out. I’ve always wanted to try one!

    1. Renée says:

ah maybe it would be better where you are! I think it’s just our pools really.

  8. Great week, Renee! Getting home two hours earlier in the evening is definitely motivation to move up a level in your pilates class! Hope it works out!

    1. Renée says:

      thanks Debbie!

  9. I have a Peloton bike and love it. The bike is in my living room and I could use it whenever I want. Though lately I haven’t used it as much as I would like to. Haha, Charlie is definitely a great helper!!

    1. Renée says:

Charlie has been helping us “sleep” lately. as in not helping at all! arg! kittens!
