WRD – Week 18/2023

Joining the weekly run down again this week – still not fully going to plan and not sure whether it’s my lack of desire or other “noise” in my head distracting me from getting it together.

Here’s how everything went:

Friday – run at lunch, option strength in PM
Saturday – parkrun (participating), 2nd option for strength in the afternoon

Monday – while I did have a good sweat session at lunch with RPM 85, I did not end up going to the gym. There was a running event going on that Ron was participating in, as well as several others I know in town and the FOMO was too strong to not go and support. In my defence, we did walk there at back so I did 6KM. Also we caught an amazing sunset and then had a beer at a local-ish (about 1km from home) pub as it was just too nice to pass up.

Tuesday – my day off this week. I started with an appointment at the opticians. I decided about a month ago to get my eyes checked and get new glasses as my current specs are 7 years old. With the insurance payment (a measly EUR 70), and the “buy one get one free” deal (is actually a deal in my case because my glasses are so expensive) I left with a much lighter bank account and another appt in 2 weeks to pick them up. Of course I will share that here when I have them.

Then I went to the gym! Felt weird, had to figure out all the machines myself and then got annoyed when a gym bro pair were hogging the lat machine. Finally found another one one floor down. Realise I forgot to clean up my weights from the machine previously when I was already out of the gym again.

Once I was home I had lunch, cleaned up and then went to meet a friend for coffee. We walked to the park and had a lovely time catching up with each other. Total recorded walk 5.1KM but I didn’t record coffee and walking around the park.

Wednesday – work day. sadly I felt like it should have been Thursday and it clearly wasn’t. Decided to run after work. Did another 5KM, and 1KM walk.

Thursday – Ron and I had a dinner date at a new Mexican restaurant in town (it was ok, better than most but not exactly what I’m looking for). We walked there and back for a total of 3.5KM.

Friday – This has felt like a really long work week. At least we made it out at lunch for a 5KM run and 1KM cool down walk. I wanted to go to the gym but forgot it was a national holiday (Liberation Day) and they closed at 5pm. Tough when you work until 5:30pm…

Saturday – parkrunday! We were able to participate in what became our 40th parkrun. Only 10 to go for the next milestone! On Friday I had done 3 x 1 kilometre with 200 m rest in between so I decided to do this parkrun as 800/200 the whole way around. This meant a slower time but will do this a few more times to see some improvement and then move on to full kilometres. My recorded walk for the day was to parkrun and a bit around the park with setting up, 1.25KM.

Not gonna lie. I am very critical of myself in this photo but I am still trying. I’m still out there. I haven’t given up on myself. I just don’t recognise myself sometimes.

Afterwards we had a short break at home and then we were off to the hairdresser. Kim is also a friend and knows me well enough to take immediate action when I say “We can cut a chunk off” to do it right away otherwise I’ll change my mind. I am certain she took pleasure in it as well – ha!

I got home too late to go to the gym. Plus I was pretty tired. Ron cooked dinner and because we have another sick cat, we actually ended up at the emergency vet for Charlie at 8:30pm. What a way to spend a Saturday night.

Sunday – did some practical things around the house and ended up with only 2.15KM walking. Charlie is still not doing well, in fact he’s throwing up a lot at the mere sight of food (a bad sign as they actually get very nauseous when they don’t eat for a bit, continuing the cycle of not eating.

If you are into prayers, asking things to the universe, care about animals and especially cats, please keep Charlie in your thoughts? We just lost Oliver at Christmas, I can’t bear to lose another cat so soon.

he’s only 4! He’s too young to leave us already!

Coming up next week

I will continue my 1km min per day walk streak as well as some other cardio and strength.

Monday – RPM, walk, gym appt at 7:30PM
Tuesday – Amsterdam office day – lunch walk
Wednesday – run at lunch, then gym
Thursday – walk
Friday – run at lunch, gym after work
Saturday – parkrun in Sneek
Sunday – run, walk, bike? not sure yet.

That’s a wrap!

How was your week?

Comments

  1. Wow 40 park runs is something to be proud of. We are all our own biggest critics. Just keep moving forward!

  2. Wendy says:

So sorry to hear about your kitty! I hope he turns the corner. Just keep moving–it’s always the best thing to do!

  3. Jenny says:

Oh NO!!! I hope Charlie will be okay. i’m sending all healing thoughts his way.
I know how hard it is to go back to the gym if you’ve been away for a while, so congratulations for getting yourself there. It’ll be easier from here on out.
A week or so ago I posted some race photos, and said I didn’t like the way my stomach looked in them. Everyone SAID they didn’t notice it (although I’m not sure if I believe them, ha ha!) but it’s true that we’re all very critical of ourselves. The important thing is that we’re out there doing it- how we look isn’t as important as how we feel!

  4. Hey, chin UP, me friend!! YOU are making daily efforts, and you’re seeing progress. Just keep moving forward. Hugs and prayers to all of you on Charlie’s behalf. I hope he’s feeling better soon!

  5. Coco says:

I’m so sorry to hear about Charlie. I hope he’s doing better. <3

That sunset is lovely. I wish we could walk places for dinner or drinks. That’s one thing that would motivate me to move.

  9. Jenn says:

Sending love to you all, and to Charlie.

I love Mexican food – it would be hard to not be able to get it.

You keep pushing and I’m so proud of everything you’ve done and the parkrun you’ve built!

  10. Kim G says:

Can’t wait to see the glasses that you selected. You just reminded me that I need to make an eye appoint as my last one was right before Covid hit….whoops!

Keeping Charlie in my prayers and sending nothing but good vibes your way!
