Week 21
Plan vs. Actual
Monday – walk, gym
Tuesday – DAY OFF- RUN/walk
Wednesday – walk, gym
Thursday – walk, run after work
Friday – walk
Saturday – walk, gym (volunteering at parkrun)
Sunday – walk and if the weather is good, BIKE
So… I literally don’t have to cross anything out this week!
Monday – Short walk at lunch, then walking to and from the gym. 3.3KM walked, 45 min strength.
Tuesday – It was my day off and I planned on running in the morning. However, Ron started a project the week before of repairing some spots on the walls outside (in the back, where we have the “cattio” but also in the front on the stairs leading to our front door), which also included painting. I didn’t want him to have to do everything himself, so instead of running first, I had the feeling that I should paint first to be sure I could contribute (because sometimes running leaves me pretty sore) and then run later.
That meant that, as the day wore on, I was losing my mojo, but I did it anyway. Lovely run down to the Rhine, and then back up home. It was a warm day too. PERFECT. 5KM run, 1.5KM walk
Wednesday – ugh. so busy at work. Didn’t start early and then used my half hour lunch to do laundry. Fun times. After work though, I walked to the gym and back. 2KM walking, 40min strength (less people, less waiting time for machines)
Thursday – another busy day. Did start early and took the time at lunch to run, instead of after work. I had forgotten when I planned my week that I had a phone “date” with my brother. 5KM run, 1.35KM walk
Friday – yep, you guessed it. Another crazy day at work, but I only had a walk planned. We had quiz night again with our friends Gerrit, Marcel and Nezar. And we came in 2nd place – AGAIN. 3.5KM walk to and from the quiz.
Saturday – parkrun day! OMG y’all, it was the best parkrun day so far. Brooks is doing a “parkrun tour” and we were planned for this day. They brought shoes to try on, free buffs for everyone, an entry for a giveaway, music, arranged a coffee truck, it was amazing! On top of that Brooks is sponsoring the “RunnersWorld Dream Team” so the team came as well for their very first parkrun ever. AND, it’s a holiday weekend, so we had loads of tourists from England, Wales, Germany, Australia and more. We had the most participants since our start – 78 people! And the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. I am just so in awe of this thing. I just wish all of you could experience it like I do. <3
Of course after parkrun was coffee and chatting and then I headed home. Later in the afternoon I went to the gym, even though I was tired and almost told myself I would go Sunday. I went. YES. And you know what, the gym was empty! It was a gorgeous day and I’m sure that people were out enjoying the SUN. My workout went pretty quick due to no waiting times! loved it! 4.65KM Walk (to and around parkrun when setting up + to and from the gym), 38 min strength
Sunday – 2KM Walk is done, getting ready to head out on the bike.
Coming up Next Week
Obviously still walking 1KM per day.
Monday – HOLIDAY – walk/ extra parkrun in Nijmegen (volunteering)
Tuesday – Work in Amsterdam (lunch walk)
Wednesday – DAY OFF – run/ walk/gym
Thursday – walk/run after work
Friday – walk/gym
Saturday – walk/participate in parkrun/ gym
Sunday – walk/ dance my tush off at Harry Styles
It’s going to be kind of tricky next week what with the holiday thrown in, plus I do finally have to go into the office so doing anything besides a lunch walk is just out of the question. Also it’s not ideal to gym Friday and Saturday, and depending on the actual plan for Sunday evening, maybe I can go Sunday morning. So that’s the only swap I would do.
I’m feeling a bit more positive, the sun is shining, I’m riding a pretty happy wave right now thanks to the positivity that parkrun has brought me, plus pretty chuffed that I DID IT. I had a plan and I stuck with it. Which means I can do it again.
That’s a wrap!
How was your week? Do you like Harry Styles? I absolutely ADORE him. My friend Susan asked me if I wanted to go with her ages ago and of course I said yes not knowing then that I’d have a million things going on. Ah well, never mind. Life is short.
Looks like you had a fantastic week! It’s nice to see you smiling so big. You know I am a huge Brooks fan and it’s great to see them sponsoring small events like this.
I really did! This was the second visit from Brooks and it does attract more people. Good for both, right? But I do believe they are the European sponsor and when you consider the fact that there are more than 2000 events every Saturday (and about 400 junior parkruns held on Sunday) in 22 countries with participation of over 275,000 people and around 35,000 volunteers, it’s not really “small”. I mean, it’s not a race, but Brooks definitely took the right decision to choose parkrun.
Glad you had such a great week! Your Parkrun sounds like so much fun — you guys have really built something amazing.
I really struggle with having to walk Bandit early, since he’s so heat intolerant, and getting out later when it’s hotter for my run. It seems like I’m always running when someone else is off elsewhere leaving me to handle it all myself.
it is really amazing :)
It is tough sometimes to pick the right time for running and early morning me just doesn’t have as much energy as midday me. I’m sorry it’s not always ideal for you. I get it.
Yay! I’m glad you had such a good week- it feels good, doesn’t it? Your parkrun sounds amazing! Oh, and… you have a “cattio?” I’m intrigued. I want one- our cats currently go outside and I’m not really happy about that. Anyway, I hope this week goes well for you!
It does feel good! And yes we do have a small space where the cats can go “outside” – I’ll put a photo or two in the WRD to show you. Thanks and I hope you are having a good week too!
This TOTALLY made my day ;-) So glad to hear about your fantastic week! All of your work with parkrun is paying such dividends, I hope you are proud of all your efforts and persistence in making it so successful ;-) Here’s to another fab week…keep the momentum going ;-)
ah thanks Kim! and yes I am very proud. I have a tough time saying “I did this” when I look at all the people who show up every week, but I did do this. I did it!!
So happy you had a positive week Renee! Great to read. Cheers!
Thanks Jessie!
Yay on getting all your workouts in!
It’s so cool that Brooks came to your parkrun! I’ve been to a few “fun runs” they’ve been at and it really does add a fun vibe. Did you try any of their shoes?
I hope you have another great week!
Yeah! Feeling like I’m on a roll here for sure!
Having Brooks at an event really does add to the vibe. I tried some shoes when they were in Almere (I think in Jan or Feb?), bought them and then bought another pair a couple of weeks ago haha!! I’m hooked.
Thanks Coco!
Love to see that Brooks event! I’ve been running in their sneakers for the past few years and really love them (I also love their sports bras too).
Awesome job on getting in all your workouts and hope you have a great week ahead!
Interesting you like their bras as well. I’m in the market but I really need a bra that will keep the girls completely immobile. I just don’t know what to try to be honest.
Thanks and hope you are having a great week too!
I was so chuffed to see your photo with Dave!!
next time the 3 of us!!!
Yay Renée, what a great week. The weather seemed to have been pretty favorable too.
I am sure you answered this somewhere on your blog, but since I am a new reader: how did you end up moving to the Netherlands? I think, you are not too far away from where I grew up :)
What a difference the weather makes!
So I moved here in 1994 originally for a job. I was working at the company who did all the finance and contracts for Nike and their factories. I was supposed to go back to Portland in 1997 but decided to stay “a couple more years”. Time flies haha! Where did you grow up? I live really close to Germany actually, like 20KM from the border.
Thanks for filling me in, Renée. Since 1994. Wow! It’s been a while… it’s funny, because I came here (CA) for an exchange semester and then also “never left” after just wanting to stay “just a few more years”. LOL This is how these things happen.
I grew up outside of Köln. Not too far away :)
I am so happy you are riding a happy wave and getting some wins!
I am committing to try out our ParkRun in two weeks. It’s a bit far, but I want to support it, and the people who run it.
Lots of love to you always. Keep it going!
ah thanks Jenn! and how cool!!! Oh I can’t wait for you to try it! Don’t forget to do the one-time registration and bring your barcode. And tell them your friend in Arnhem at Sonsbeek parkrun has been raving about it so much you had to go haha!
It’s so nice that Brooks came to Parkrun! I love that. It looks like you had a great week and that’s such a good thing. Here’s to better days ahead!
SUCH a good thing. I needed this week, Wendy!
Yay for a happy week! I’m so glad things evened out for you and you enjoyed amazing weather. How cool to have Brooks supporting you park run that way!
Thank you so much Marcia!
